Customers keep asking why example.com (no www) can't be a CNAME. Short version: RFC 1034 — a CNAME can't coexist with the NS/SOA records that must live at the zone apex. That's why apex support needs A/ALIAS/flattening. Connect Domain handles the apex case for you where the provider supports it.
